Marleen Bosma-Verhaegh succeeds Jaap van der Bijl as Chief Executive Officer of Altera

Real estate investor Altera Management (“Altera”) has announced that Marleen Bosma-Verhaegh was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Combined Participants Meeting held on 15 April 2026. Marleen will start as CEO of Altera on 1 July. She succeeds Jaap van der Bijl, who will stand down as CEO effective 1 July due to his retirement on 21 September. Alongside Marleen, the Management Board now consists of Erwin Wessels (Chief Investment Officer) and Cyril van den Hoogen (Chief Financial Officer).

Jaap van der Bijl led Altera for a decade, playing an instrumental role in the development and growth of the organisation and its funds. Under his stewardship, Altera further strengthened its position as a leading real estate investor, with a clear focus on sustainable value creation for all stakeholders. During this period, Altera further internationalised its investor base, adding new (international) clients to the funds.

Moreover, Jaap made an important contribution to the further strengthening and positioning of both Altera Residential Fund and Altera Retail Fund. For Altera Retail Fund, he played a key role in the fund’s successful change of strategy, with a focus on convenience retail and attracting international investors.

Jaap van der Bijl“Together, we’ve built a future-proof portfolio and strong organisation, with a clear focus on sustainable value creation for our investors. In recent years, we’ve further strengthened and expanded our funds with high-quality sustainable homes for a range of target groups and convenience retail in demographically strong catchment areas. I look back with pride at our shared achievements and have every confidence that Altera will continue to pursue this course with great success.”

Marleen brings a wealth of experience in the real estate and investment sector to her role at Altera. She has worked at Bouwinvest Real Estate Investors since 2016, holding a range of senior positions, including Head of Research & Strategic Advisory and Director of Strategic Business Development. In 2022, she joined the management board as Chief Client Officer, where she was responsible for investor relations, business investment and internationalisation of the capital. She previously held positions in real estate investments, strategy and research at Blue Sky Group, Achmea Real Estate, the Philips Pension Fund and FGH Bank.

Marleen Bosma-Verhaegh: “I look forward to working with the team to build on the strong foundations laid in recent years. Altera has a clear strategy, with a strong focus on sustainable value creation and an active role in the connection between capital and the societal challenges we face in housing and retail. I look forward to continuing this strategy and further strengthening our position for investors and partners.”

The Supervisory Board has expressed its appreciation for Jaap van der Bijl’s dedication and leadership and its gratitude for the important contribution he made to Altera’s growth, internationalisation and further professionalisation. The Supervisory Board also welcomes Marleen Bosma-Verhaegh to her role as CEO and expresses its confidence in her ability to build on the strong foundations laid and further intensify and strengthen Altera’s strategy as it enters its next phase of growth. The Supervisory Board wishes her every success in her new role.
