Reduction of CO₂ emissions and energy savings for Altera Retail Fund in 2024

Real estate investor Altera, on behalf of the Altera Residential Fund, is taking the next step in its strategic partnership with BAM Wonen by boosting the sustainability of 47 ground-level homes in Voorhout. These homes, built in the 1980s, are being upgraded as part of Altera’s ambition to make its residential portfolio Paris Proof by 2040. The redevelopment work is due for completion in the summer of 2025.
The project will bring the energy label for these properties up to A or A+. The upgrade includes the installation of a heat exchanger, roof and floor insulation, and replacing the glass in external doors and windows with HR+++ glazing. Many of the existing solar panels will be reinstalled once the roof has been renewed. The sustainability measures are being implemented with the full agreement of the residents, and Altera and BAM are once again delighted to be joining forces in the interests of a more sustainable future. The project is expected to reduce gas consumption by around 40% and CO2 emissions by around 50% compared to current levels.
Thanks to its five-star ratings, Altera’s Residential Fund has been at the top of the GRESB rankings for several years and remains a leader in the field of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) within the real estate sector.
Altera CIO Erwin Wessels fills in the background to this latest project: ‘Making our residential portfolio more sustainable is a core part of our strategy. The launch of this project in Voorhout demonstrates our ongoing commitment to sustainable development in close collaboration with BAM Wonen. Together, we are hard at work to improve the living environment for our tenants, shareholders and society as a whole.’
Henry Jongerden, Deputy Director of Sustainability at BAM Wonen, confirms this shared commitment: ‘Thanks to our cooperation with Altera, its tenants and our partners, we are working towards a sustainable future each and every day. Together, we are not only ensuring lower energy consumption, but also a higher quality of life and a better world for future generations.’
Altera’s partnership with BAM Wonen is a key component of its sustainability strategy. In recent years, BAM Wonen has played a pioneering role in sustainability projects, such as zero-energy renovations, and remains a reliable partner in Altera’s campaign to achieve its sustainability ambitions.
