Altera again leads the GRESB sustainability benchmark

Altera has once again delivered strong results in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB). Both the Altera Retail Fund and the Altera Residential Fund ranked first in their respective categories. Both funds also retained the prestigious GRESB 5-Star rating.

For the Altera Retail Fund, this is the fifth consecutive year that it has been ranked the Netherlands’ most sustainable retail fund in its category. The fund focuses on food and convenience retail and combines a sustainable real estate portfolio with a long-term approach to stable value creation.

The Altera Residential Fund also maintained its first place in its category this year. Together, these results demonstrate that sustainability at Altera is not separate from the way we invest, but a strong integral part of our real estate investment strategy.

Sustainability goes beyond energy performance

Altera takes a broader approach, looking beyond energy use and carbon reduction. As the sustainability of real estate evolves, increasing attention is being paid to areas such as embodied carbon emissions and biodiversity. These themes are also becoming more prominent within the GRESB methodology. Altera is therefore continuing to drive the sustainability of its portfolios through its 2040 Paris-proof ambition, while also focusing on climate adaptation, biodiversity and social value.

The strength of Altera’s approach lies in the long term: investing in real estate that creates lasting value – financially as well as socially. The GRESB results confirm that this approach continues to deliver strong performance as the benchmark becomes increasingly demanding.

Marleen Bosma-Verhaegh, CEO Altera:
“Sustainability is an integral part of the investment choices we make every day as a real estate investor. We invest in sustainable real estate for the long term, creating value for our investors, tenants and society. The fact that both funds have once again ranked first in their categories and achieved a 5-Star rating is strong confirmation of our sustainable investment approach.”

Janneke Pruijsen, Team Lead ESG:
“A strong GRESB score becomes more demanding every year and challenges us to continuously improve our approach. High-quality data helps us understand where we stand; together with our tenants, suppliers and other partners, we then turn this insight into practical action. This is how we translate ambition into tangible improvements across our portfolios.”

GRESB and B Corp: sustainability from organisation to portfolio

In 2026, Altera also received its B Corp certification. The certification reflects an independent assessment of Altera’s social and environmental performance, governance and transparency, and reinforces our commitment to creating sustainable long-term value.

GRESB and B Corp complement each other: GRESB measures the sustainability performance of our real estate portfolios, while B Corp takes a broader view of the organisation and the way we operate. Together, they strengthen our approach to sustainable long-term value – from the real estate we invest in to the way we run our organisation – and provide a framework for continuous improvement.

Altera has participated in the GRESB benchmark since 2012. GRESB is an international platform for measuring and comparing ESG performance across the real estate and infrastructure sectors.
