Real estate investor Altera signs up to Doorzon Covenant to tackle housing fraud
Real estate investor Altera has signed up to the Doorzon Covenant for the municipalities of Amsterdam, Amstelveen and Uithoorn. As part of this partnership, municipalities, the police, grid operator Liander, housing associations, institutional investors, real estate brokers and managers are working together to combat housing fraud. By doing so, they are contributing to the lawful use of housing, safe neighbourhoods and a liveable residential environment.
Doorzon Covenant
The Doorzon Covenant was prompted by the need for a more effective approach to tackling housing fraud, human trafficking and criminal exploitation of residential properties. It has since developed into a broad public-private partnership. As part of the Tafel020 alliance, a RIEC Amsterdam-Amstelland initiative, government authorities and professional parties in the real estate sector are working together to increase resilience against subversive crime. The Doorzon Covenant is one of the instruments that helps shape this alliance in practice.
United in the fight against housing fraud
Signing up to the Covenant will enable Altera to make an active contribution to preventing and combating fraud in the housing sector. By more rapidly sharing information within the legal frameworks, the parties involved can respond to signals at an earlier stage and collaborate on appropriate measures in a targeted way.
Altera’s participation in the Covenant will ensure that it is informed at an early stage of any irregularities or criminal activities identified in the residential properties within its portfolio. The Covenant will also enable more rapid and targeted collaboration with municipalities and the police in responding to reports of housing fraud and exploitation of housing by criminals. Based on their own responsibilities and within the legal frameworks, parties can then take appropriate measures in time.
Niels van Wonderen, Head of Asset Management Residential: “Signing up to the Doorzon Covenant will improve our cooperation with municipalities and the police. By sharing any relevant signals more rapidly, we can tackle housing fraud more effectively and contribute to safe and liveable neighbourhoods. This is important not only to our residents, but also to society as a whole.”
